Curriculum

Activities

Our well-equipped nursery gives children the opportunity to take part and enjoy a variety of learning experiences through the resources provided. This takes place through problem solving, creatively, and personally and socially.

The resources and facilities encourage the children to play and work together and also to work individually. The activities can be structured (adult Led) or the children can plan and chose what they want to do.

Activities include:

Physical Development

Children will have daily opportunities for climbing, running, jumping, using bikes, tries, scooters and balls. We have weekly dance session and a weekly session of P. E using apparatus in the hall. We also have a wide range of soft play equipment and ball pool. The on site hall is registered for our use by Ofsted.

Cutting, Threading, painting and construction toys are amongst the many activities we provide to develop fine motor skills.

Numeracy and Mathematical

We use sand, water, cooking activities, dice and sorting games, singing and countless other methods for introducing mathematical concepts for introducing mathematical concepts. Numbers and mathematical language are used in all aspects of nursery life, from assisting in laying tables to counting how many children are in the nursery on a particular day.

Communication, Language and Literacy

Language and Literacy are developed through story times, daily interaction, opportunities for role play, circler games and from the vast array of ‘mark making’ tools available in nursery. Children are encouraged to recognise and write their own names on work and to do special jobs for the day. Visitors are invited into nursery to talk the children about there work, life e.g. Police and Fire officers, postal workers, parents etc which all helps to extend children’s vocabulary.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

We have a computer for the children with CD ROM, which assists in bringing the world to life for our children, where they are able to use different games and programmes and explore the world.

We celebrate many cultural festivals and have different topics every month. We have fun exploring and experimenting and growing things.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

The children learn how to care for themselves, and for others. They learn to appreciate the environment and the natural world and take turns and care and share. They children have input in the nursery rules so they can understand the meaning behind them and develop and understanding.

Creative

Children’s creativity is developed through painting, drawing, modelling, using man made and natural materials, singing, dancing, music and movement. A well-resourced messy area for creative activities is available at all times. We continually redecorate the nursery with the children’s work to give them a sense of purpose and pride in their achievements.

We adopt an anti-racist, multi-cultural, multi-lingual approach to the benefit of all the children and staff. We are constantly reviewing the ethos and resources of the nursery.
