Jumoke is based in St Paul’s; it is Bristol’s longest established black-led day nursery and is Bristol’s only culturally specific nursery. Parents and carers of African, Caribbean and other minority ethnic families choose to ensure their children are cared for in an environment, which positively reflects their communities. Over the years, Jumoke’s original premises have been extended and developed and in our 32nd year, we have vision on how the nursery can become sustainable when grant aid funding ceases in September 2007.
Jumoke’s role since its inception in 1974 has been to create a caring, friendly environment in which each child through play may develop his/her full potential in every aspect of growth and to create such communication that will help and support parents in the development of their child.
The Aims of Jumoke
- To give the child a smooth transition from home to school by providing the highest standard of care and education for children under five in the Bristol area.
- To provide affordable childcare services
- To help children develop understanding of themselves and of others and to learn to enjoy building good relationships with all people they have contact with.
- To play and work confidentially with different children and co-operate as a member of the community, developing tolerance and concern for others, regardless of gender, race and culture.
- Ensuring that our service is in accordance with the latest standard of care.
- Respecting children as an individual, taking into account their cultural and religious needs.
- Managing our services efficiently and effectively.
- Valuing partnerships with parents, guardians and carers. We value parents as experts on their own child’s education and learning, and believe that a child’s education is an extension of their home life.
Most Importantly we learn through play and Learning is Fun!
